Areas of Occurrence:

Since syrups are viscous and those taking them are likely to be at least partially incapacitated due to illness, stains from them can be far-reaching. Dribbled cough syrup is likely to be found on the fronts of T-shirts, pajama tops, and nightgowns, as well as on robes, socks, sheets, and bed linens, depending on the awareness—or lack thereof—of the person administering the fluid.

REMOVAL:

For iron tonics:

1.

Apply a mild bleach, such as lemon juice, to the stain.

2.

Sprinkle with salt to absorb stain. For colored fabrics, test first for colorfastness before completing steps 1 and 2.

3.

Let fabric sit in direct sunlight. The sun will help to bleach out the stain. Test first for colorfastness.

4.Repeat steps 1 through 3 until stain is removed. Do not let the stain dry between applications.

5.

Rinse well in warm water.

6.

Launder according to garment label.

7.If the stain remains, treat with a rust remover according to manufacturer’s directions.
